Xiaomi Mi Watch Prices
The Xiaomi Mi Watch is a companion smartwatch for Android smartphones that is very similar to the Apple Watch design with many of the same functions. If a Global version ever releases, the Mi Watch and any subsequent versions could be a serious contender to the Apple Watch series.
What you get
From an objective view, the Xiaomi Mi Watch looks very similar to the Apple Watch and many people have called it the “best knockoff” of the Apple Watch yet. However, this position is disingenuous as Apple isn’t the first company to design a stylish squared watch. What do we expect a squared smartwatch to look like in 2020 if not this?
Of course, there have been other copies of the Apple Watch, such as the LEMFO LEM 10, but it cannot be taken seriously as a contender due to its size and outdated OS and hardware. The Xiaomi Mi Watch, however, is using the latest Snapdragon 3100 processor and features a 1.78″ AMOLED display running a resolution of 368 x 448.
Weighing only 45mm, the Mi Watch is slightly larger than the Apple Watch and has sharp square edges with a rotating crown, microphone, and dedicated shortcut button on the right side. It has a ceramic back with an integrated always-on heart rate monitor and charging port with removable straps. Also, because of its aluminum frame, the Mi Watch weighs only 55g.
Finally, the Xiaomi Mi Watch runs the latest WearOS with the Xiaomi MIUI Skin. If you’ve installed the custom MIUI ROMs on your smartphones or downloaded the MIUI launcher from the Play Store, you’ll feel familiar with this Android theme. Alternatively, you can change the app drawer to a traditional WearOS look if you prefer.
From a design perspective, yes, the Mi Watch is very similar to the Apple Watch as it should be. Android users need love too.
Battery & Performance
The Mi Watch features the Snapdragon 3100 processor clocked at 1.25ghz and a 570mAH battery. Battery usage is approximately 36 hours when all features are active such as LTE and NFC. If you’re using it as a Bluetooth device only, you may experience battery life closer to 2 full days depending on usage.
Controls on the Xiaomi Mi Watch are very intuitive. The rotating crown wakes the watch, launches the app drawer, and allows you to quickly scroll through content quickly. Swiping to the left from the home screen brings up the step counter, heart-rate monitor, Mi account, and fitness running app. Swiping right from the home screen takes you to your calendar and notifications.
Additionally, it has an always-on display, tap or raise-to-wake feature, an assistant and everything you would expect from a WearOS smartwatch. However, it doesn’t have the Google Play Store and you’re limited to Xiaomi’s alternative store for popular apps that are specifically optimized for the watch. The selection of apps isn’t bad but if you’re coming from a different WearOS device, you may not be able to install some of your favorite apps right now.
Lastly, there are only a couple of languages supported right now with English and Chinese being the two most preferred. Unless you’re in China, you won’t have access to NFC pay or the ESIM “LTE” feature. Technically, the bands used by the Mi Band “should” work in the US but it looks like the ESIM may only be provisioned for Chinese carriers.
The Mi Watch features heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen, sleep monitoring, and body energy monitoring. Additionally, it has 10 exercises “sports modes” that you can perform and track. It also has a 5ATM (up to 50 meters) water resistance. GPS, GLONASS, and BEIDOU are built-in so that you can track distance with your fitness apps.
Should you buy the Xiaomi Mi Watch? It depends on how you’re going to use it. If you need LTE, it may be worth waiting to see if a Global Version releases. However, there have been many Chinese LTE devices that haven’t come to the US market such as Huawei Watch 2 LTE. If you’re going to use it as a Bluetooth only device, it’s worth getting. Even though it has an alternative app store, the native WearOS Google Play Store is also limited. You should still be able to install most of your favorite social media apps.
